Alarming rate of suicides in US military a hidden crisis,‘ activist says
‘US military personnel who occupy and brutalize other nations, suffer from alienation, isolation, and trauma when they return home, fueling an “alarming” rate of suicides that are a hidden “crisis,” a peace activist in Washington says.
“The alarming increase over the past three years of suicides or attempted suicides by members of the US armed forces has become a real scandal for the Pentagon and for the Veterans Administration,” said Brian Becker, the national coordinator for the ANSWER Coalition, a US-based protest umbrella group consisting of many antiwar and civil rights organizations.
“The American military rank and file soldier has been put in a position of occupying other people’s land,” Becker told Press TV on Wednesday. So a process of “demonization” and “brutalization” takes place, he said.
